the project 'the pool' worked again with year 5 children from the east end of london around the theme of the water cycle.
They explored not only the physical properties of water, but also emotions and process of change associated with it and the cycle it transforms through. They considered how to picture movement and sound and the effect of water on the environment, how it changed the state of materials and how it's presence can be suggested without showing the substance itself.
They considered particularly the effect of the weather and it's influence, creating a miniture scene using images of themselves placed as cut outs in a self created mini world reflecting waters influence.
The final installation – 'the pool' – was conceived as an 'outdoor' work, prone to the elements itself and allowing water to channel through it.
