Phase 1. 2011. ongoing
The extraction of exact data on the decline of honey bee populations is extremely difficult although frequently refered to. But the lack of concrete and enduring figures illustrates the little appetite we have for understanding our futures. We consider big questions, political stratgies, careers and major acts but ignore the smallest of elements, the building blocks of our lives and how often the 'grand' rests upon the smallest element.
Images have been taken in and across western Europe, the UK, USA and Canada.
The project at various stages has received the generous help of various national and regional bee keeper's associations and research bodies.
Phase 1. of the project 'breathe' has involved the photographing of bee hives and the environments which they occupy.
Phase 2. physically altering the state of Phase 1. prints.
